We hope you are having a great week, wherever you are now?

We would like to share with you some exciting new changes on WAYN.com that are now live on the site.

Check out our new and vibrant destination pages on WAYN to find inspiration for your next holiday getaway. Have you ever wondered where exactly the place is? What the weather is like there and what the time difference is? Well, now you can find out! Check out Panama for example. There is now lots of new and useful information for you to take advantage of.

The temperature
At 30°C and with moderate sunshine it is a good spot to escape the snow, wind or rain. On the contrary, if you would prefer to get a rest from the heat, search for a chiller destination instead.

The time
You can now find out exactly what time it is anywhere in the world. Handy if you are travelling and want to know what time it is at home when you call your friends and family.

‘Been or want to go’ buttons
Have you been or are planning to go Panama? Let others know by clicking on the ‘I’ve been’ and ‘I want to go’ buttons or if you are planning a trip there, you can select “Add a trip” and connect with locals when you get there.

Want to know where it is exactly? Click on the ‘Show on map’ icon and see where it is located. You can also see the distance between your current location and the city of your choice on the map.

Destination information
If you wish to find out more about this beautiful city, simply choose the ‘About Panama’ option on the left side of the menu and read a description to imagine yourself there. You can also check out the weather forecast for the next three days and find out the average monthly temperature to decide when best to plan your trip there. We will also show you the distance between your current location and the city of your choice on the map.

Easy to use filters
On the right-hand side you will find an improved menu with easy to use filter options. These filters allow you to search for people connected to the location or see the best travel photos for example.

You can also add a Tip or ask a Question (or read what others have posted). It couldn’t be easier – simply choose the Tips or Questions options and go from there.

We hope you like the new layout just as much as we do, especially as it couldn’t have been created without your ongoing support and feedback.

Thanks again and look out for more improvements to come!

International Tiger Day – Play your part! http://waynfounders.com/2013/international-tiger-day/ http://waynfounders.com/2013/international-tiger-day/#comments Mon, 29 Jul 2013 08:21:22 +0000 http://waynfounders.com/?p=2766 Screen Shot 2013-07-26 at 15.40.21

29th July – International Tiger Day

Over the last 100 years wild tiger numbers have dropped by 97%. International Tiger Day is an initiative tailored towards raising awareness of the issues affecting the habitat and lives of this wonderful species. The goal is to engineer a turnaround and make sure wild tigers are not wiped off the face of the Earth.

The WAYN Team pledges full support to International Tiger Day and would like to share a few mind blowing facts:

  • In 1913, there were approximately 100,000 wild tigers in reserves.
  • Today there are only an estimated 3200 tigers living in the wild!
  • Two of India’s tiger reserves no longer have any tigers.
  • 4 out of 9 species of tiger have already become extinct.

What would happen if we let tigers die out?

The extinction of the tiger species will have knock on effects – those within the tigers ecosystem will lose their main predator and continue to grow and grow. This will cause a rapid depletion in vegetation leading to a mass extinction amongst insects – thereby reducing the biodiversity of our planet.

Many businesses are wholly based around using the tiger species to attract tourists,  allowing for great economic returns. The extinction of the tiger will cause a collapse in many of these industries.

Extinction is permanent! Can you live with the guilt of wiping out the largest cat on this planet? How is this explainable to future generations?

Play YOUR part:

WAYN CEO, Peter Ward, spoke at the Figaro Digital Conference on 18th July 2013. He gave his insights and foresights from co-founding and running WAYN for 10 years.

Peter delivered some key messages that will remain resonant in the ears of even the most seasoned entrepreneurs. Peter stressed the importance of “starting with a dream and being flexible on how to achieve it”.

There will be many ups and downs in the world of business, but you must persevere, change and adapt despite the set backs. It is vital to learn and grow by watching those around you whilst staying true to the unique core of your business.

Nelson Mandela Day – Change the World! http://waynfounders.com/2013/mandel/ http://waynfounders.com/2013/mandel/#comments Thu, 18 Jul 2013 14:20:41 +0000 http://waynfounders.com/?p=2695 July 18th – Nelson Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela – The Revolutionary

Nelson Mandela as we all know is one of the most inspirational figures of the modern world. He devoted 67 long years of his life to fight for democracy, equality and civil rights. As part of Nelson Mandela Day, we urge you to spend just 67 minutes giving back to the community in any way you see fit.

Heavily pursued by police in South Africa, Mandela was in hiding for about 2 years. Once caught, he spent near to 26 years in prison for fighting for what he believed in – seen as one of the greatest acts of human willpower in history. After being released from prison in 1990 and winning the first multinational election in 1994, Mandela’s South Africa was still tainted with strong elements of racial tension and hate crime.

One of  his most impressive feats in unifying the people of South Africa was through sport. He was quick to realise the potential that sport held and often described it as the “glue to bind the nation”. Using the 1995 Rugby World Cup, which was being hosted by South Africa, as his platform, Mandela sought to give the nation a common goal.  Miraculously, in what is still remembered as a golden day in rugby, the Springboks managed to overcome New Zealand 15-12 in Johannesburg to be crowned champions.  This achievement was bigger than existing prejudices, and for it the country celebrated – as one.

We hope to inspire you to actively take part in Nelson Mandela Day and make the world a better place!

Be sure to share pictures of how you spent your 67 minutes on WAYN and don’t forget to check out the WAYN Nelson Mandela Day Page!

WAYN’s Travel Necessities! http://waynfounders.com/2013/wayns-travel-necessities/ http://waynfounders.com/2013/wayns-travel-necessities/#comments Wed, 03 Jul 2013 16:34:33 +0000 http://waynfounders.com/?p=2674 Packing can be the most dreaded part of traveling, resulting in late night shop runs and last minute panic attacks.  So cut the stress, lose the luggage, and follow this list.

Passport You will not get very far without it and you certainly won’t get home easily.  After you’ve done with the airport, pop it somewhere safe and zip it there until you’re back boarding a plane.  No nightclubs, no bars, the airport is the only exposure this book needs.  Not one to forget.

Toothbrush You’re definitely going to need this no matter where in the world you’re headed.  It’s uncomfortable if you don’t have it, and awkward if you need to find one, so why leave it up to chance? Pop it in your back pocket and save everyone the undesirable bad breath.

Money Although the nomad, idyllic traveller, needs no earthly possessions and simply wanders along a dusty road happening upon benevolent strangers,  the reality check is an image of yourself standing at an airport unable to get a taxi out. We’re not suggesting you carry a wad of cash in a brown envelope, this is the 21st century, a visa will do.

Socks You’re getting nowhere if your feet aren’t comfortable.  Whether you’re trekking through a jungle, or just aimlessly wandering through a new city, you’re going to rely on your feet for transport, so be kind.  Also seeing as the sandals and socks combination is strongly debated, We’d stick a pair of trainers on the list too.

Phone As we mentioned, you’ve arrived at the modern era- Wifi is accessible all over the globe (even Mount Everest) so take your phone and benefit from other’s experience.  Check WAYN profiles for tips and advice, there’s no point in making it difficult for yourself!

No matter where you’re going, enjoy it and take in every moment!  It’s the journey- not the destination that will make your trip unforgettable.

Show your support for World Refugee Day – 20th June http://waynfounders.com/2013/show-your-support-for-world-refugee-day-20th-june/ http://waynfounders.com/2013/show-your-support-for-world-refugee-day-20th-june/#comments Thu, 20 Jun 2013 08:28:28 +0000 http://waynfounders.com/?p=2633 Hi guys,

Thursday 20th June sees the beginning of World Refugee Day with United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR.   The global issue of refugees is an ongoing concern and in desperate need of support from all over the world.  In order to spread awareness WAYN has launched a profile for World Refugee Day and is encouraging its users to share and donate to the worthy cause.

In 2012, one person became a refugee every four seconds because of war, famine and other crises and unfortunately this is not a fading issue. The UNHCR has reported that the number of people who have been displaced from their homes has reached an 18-year-high of 45.2 million. Today the organisation is facing fresh obstacles, with civil war in Syria forcing locals to flee across the border.

Save the Rhinos – Get involved! http://waynfounders.com/2013/save-the-rhinos-get-involved/ http://waynfounders.com/2013/save-the-rhinos-get-involved/#comments Fri, 14 Jun 2013 08:37:06 +0000 http://waynfounders.com/?p=2592 This year WAYN is teaming up with the charity Save the Rhino International, to spread awareness and help defend the endangered rhino.  Save the Rhino International works to conserve viable populations of critically endangered rhinos in Africa and Asia as well as improving and preserving ecosystems.  Five species of rhino currently exist, of which three are considered to be critically endangered, therefore the work of organizations such as Save the Rhino are essential.

Screen shot 2013-06-10 at 15.36.53

The UK based charity strives to improve and maintain the integrity of ecosystems while benefiting the local inhabitants from conservation projects.  Projects range from caring for Sumatran rhinos in Indonesia to tackling wildlife crime in Vietnam.  To learn more about why these animals need your help visit Save the Rhino profile page on WAYN. Fundraising can be fun and effective with many participating in marathons, climbing mountains or even holding bake sales to help the worthy cause.

You can save a rhino by donating or sponsoring a programme, or find out more ways to fundraise at Save the Rhino.
